EU diplomats engage in discussion on Middle East

Brussels 26.05.2024 The Foreign Affairs Council will take place on Monday May 27, it will be chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell. The top priority issue will remain the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

The EU Foreign Affairs Ministers will discuss the Russian aggression against Ukraine, after an informal exchange of views with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, who is foreseen to join the beginning of the meeting via videoconference to provide updates on the latest developments on the ground and Ukraine’s current priorities.

However the Council will be updated about the latest developments in Venezuela, with a focus on the ongoing electoral process leading to presidential elections on 28 July 2024, and in Georgia.

The Foreign Affairs Council will take place over two days and be chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.

Also the diplomats will devote attention to the situation in the Middle East. The EU Foreign Affairs Ministers will engage in a discussion on the situation in the Middle East and will informally exchange with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, as well as the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.
