Brussels 27.02.2025 The meeting between the EU top diplomat Kaja Kallas and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been cancelled and has not taken place during her official visit to Washington D.C. this week.
Madame High Representative-Vice President “will not meet Secretary of State Marco Rubio on this occasion due to scheduling issues” the spokesperson of the EU service said. Apparently last time they met on the margins of the Munich Security Conference. Although no details of this encounter were officially announced, no records left on Kallas social media page:

The encounter had been announced for February 26 by the news agencies expecting information about the results of the bilateral talks, but in vain.
However Kallas will still hold a number of meetings with representatives from the U.S. Congress and Senate to discuss Russia’s war against Ukraine and the transatlantic relationship, the spokesperson added.
In her capacity of the top EU diplomat Kallas had travelled to Washington D.C. with the high expectations to convene with with her American counterpart at equal footing, and discuss Trump’s administration efforts to engage negotiation between Russia and Ukraine in peace talks.
However it became evident that the EU leadership proximity, and even symbiosis with the U.S. Democratic party, and Biden administration agenda is an obstacle in development of functional relations with the new, Republican administration. The political struggle between the U.S. Democrats, and Republicans projected onto the EU, which established itself as an ally of Biden administration, will have far reaching consequences for the EU as an international organization. The failed diplomatic mission of Kallas is a significant symbol of this inevitable decline.

Kaja Kallas social media page has stopped on February 24 without any further posts about her Washington D.C. failed mission. She doesn’t reveal the names of the U.S. representatives, and senators who agreed to receive her, most probably they are from the “other” side of the aisle, which will only aggravate the humiliating experience to return to Brussels empty-handed.
