Brussels 16.09.2024 Today Emmanuel Macron proposes Stéphane Séjourné as European Commissioner to replace Thierry Breton, announces the Élysée according to AFP.
France was quick to react upon Ursula von der Leyen request. Today President Emmanuel Macron proposed his resigning Minister of Foreign Affairs Stéphane Séjourné as European Commissioner “focused on the issues of industrial and technological sovereignty and European competitiveness”, after the surprise resignation of Thierry Breton.

Stéphane Séjourné was “president of the Renew group (centrists and liberals, editor’s note) in the European Parliament during the previous legislature and meets all the required criteria. His European commitment will allow him to fully carry out this sovereignty agenda”, justifies the presidency.
