Brussels 08.01.2025 The EU top diplomat Kaja Kallas, will travel to Rome, Italy, on 9-10 January, to participate in the Quint meeting on Syria. The Quint is an informal political decision-making group formed by the United States and the Big Four of Western Europe – France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
The meeting, hosted by the Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, will take place in the evening, at Villa Madama, where Kaja Kallas will join her counterparts.
The meeting will focus on coordinating efforts to assist Syria in facing the huge challenges of the Syrian provisional government and Syrian society, in the post Bashar al-Assad transition. The EU will reaffirm the importance of an effective and efficient inclusiveness; for protection of minorities; rule of law; accountability; justice; and territorial integrity of Syria, as essential condition for reconciliation, and for sustained peace in the country.
The EU remains ready to support a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned process, with the support of the United Nations.
The Kaja Kallas will also meet the Prime Minister of Italy, Ms. Giorgia Meloni, and the Minister of Defence, Mr. Guido Crosetto.
