Brussels 14.03.2025 Belgian prosecutors said they had detained several individuals over suspected bribery in the European Parliament allegedly for the benefit of China’s Huawei company. The sweeping events took place on March 13. Belgian investigators carried out searches of 21 premises across Belgium and also in Portugal on in the morning. The prosecutors are conducting “an ongoing investigation on preliminary charges of active corruption, forgery of documents, money laundering at the European Parliament,” a spokesperson for the Belgian Prosecutor’s office said.
The “alleged bribery” would have benefited China’s Huawei, the office later added.
