Kimberly Guilfoyle draws scrutiny over an alleged remark involving the U.S. and Greece’s government
According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Guilfoyle made a remark during a March dinner in Athens. Greek Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou reportedly attended the gathering.

Guilfoyle claimed the United States was behind the collapse of Ilie Gavril Bolojan government for his refusal to buy expensive LNG from the U.S. “We can do that to any country we want. We can do that here.”

Minister for the Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou reminded Guilfoyle that the U.S. could not replace Greece’s democratically elected government. The exchange has since drawn attention from Greek opposition parties. They examined Guilfoyle’s efforts involving American liquefied natural gas- LNG. Apparently she forcefully promoted U.S. energy sales across Southeastern Europe.

A separate focus involved businessman Christos Marafatsos, who accompanied Guilfoyle during several official governmental, and diplomatic meetings incongnito while representing Greek construction company Aktor.
Aktor paid Marafatsos $160,000 for lobbying work. His unannounced involvement raised questions about private interests sneaking into govenmental talks.

Lawyers for Guilfoyle, Marafatsos, and Aktor denied wrongdoing. The controversy comes as ex-fiancée of Don Trump Jr – Guilfoyle serves as the U.S. ambassador to Greece under Donald Trump. Her role has included promoting stronger American energy ties across the region.
The comments remain disputed, with Guilfoyle’s representative challenging the description of the exchange.
