The leader of the Freedom party (PVV), and the major contestant of the incumbent Prime minister in upcoming general elections on the 15th of March, – Geert Wilders considers the recall of ambassadors as a logical step after offensive remarks of the Turkish leaders, and the sequence of events, rooted in an absence of respect to Dutch authorities from Ankara.
The relations between two countries degenerated within a few hours, when Turkish family minister ignored the refusal of the Dutch authorities to organize a rally in support of president Erdogan in Rotterdam with diaspora. The minister was escorted back to German border in spite of her protests and attempts to get into Turkish Consulate to continue her mission.
The rejection of rally was followed by the insults from Turkish leaders, calling Dutch ‘fascists’.
